Montblanc: Menswear SS26

On Thursday night, Montblanc made its first foray into the wondrous world of ready-to-wear with a presentation that married sartorial elegance with literary flair… and the wry imagination of Wes Anderson. Unveiling a streamlined capsule 16 looks strong, artistic director Marco Tomasetta anchored the show in his ongoing fascination with the desk – the spiritual centre of Montblanc’s universe, as a brand renowned for its precision-engineered writing instruments, expert leather craftsmanship and meticulously engineered timepieces. Leading with leather, the collection translated the intimacy of writing into something suited to a man on the move, with structured jackets echoing a bygone era or travel and styled seamlessly alongside pieces from the maison’s SS26 leather goods collection.

Tomasetta, whose tenure at Montblanc began in 2021, continued to draw from the brand’s replete Hamburg archives, crafting pieces that quite literally embodied the ‘tools’ of creativity – boxy leather jackets in autumnal tones echoed the form and function of the Montblanc desk and a Writing Traveler bag unfolded like a writer’s kit. “This expression of Montblanc heritage is the most intimate yet,” he said in the show notes, “something you can carry on your body and something that literally becomes part of you.”

For that added dose of distinctive absurdity, Montblanc also premiered its second campaign with The Phoenician Scheme filmmaker Wes Anderson. Titled Let’s Write, the short film stars Anderson himself alongside Rupert Friend and Michael Cera, returning to the snowbound Montblanc Observatory High-Mountain Library. With his signature wit and whimsy, Anderson invited attendees into a world where storytelling reigned – and where the famed stationary house’s enduring love affair with writing was met with both playful absurdity and cinematic charm. Montblanc is where words and wardrobe collide.
