Luckily for all those nursing a hangover, the second day of the London shows got off to a serene start thanks to Charlie Constantinou. All to a blissful, ambient soundtrack, models donned the designer’s signature functional garments each bathed in hues inspired by Saharan landscapes. He’d been thinking of the transition from day to night, and how warm tones become cool when nearing sunset, using complex dying techniques to achieve rustic oranges, earthy yellows and greens and the sort of lilacs that drench early evening summer skies.
Throughout, Constantinou continued to expand on silhouettes and fabric experiments of previous seasons. Like his distinct quilting technique that looks like bubbling lava as it begins to harden, seen here across vests and baguette bags. Elsewhere, slouched cargos with exaggerated pockets came layered under shorts and semi-opaque skirts. Many pieces were made from Ecco Leather which was warped and manipulated into grainy textures and stretched to appear almost mesh like. Arriving in unified groups for the show’s finale, it looked like Constantinou’s models were on a journey to somewhere in the far beyond. Wherever they were headed, they looked pretty darn great in their quest.
