Acne Studios: Menswear AW24

Grubby, grimy and ready to spark you if necessary – these were the character traits embodied by Acne Studios for its AW24 collection. An irreverent clash of ripped denim, garish prints and sharp studs that would make any quiet-luxury lover wince, the offering subverted traditional tough-guy archetypes in the Acne way. Fluffy hats and dainty bows accessorised garments that looked like they had staggered out of a 12-hour basement rave asking fellow partygoers if they knew of an afters.

Modelled by American musician Yves Tumor, each look expressed a rampant and delicious attitude synonymous with the rising star’s signature aesthetic. Known for their boundary-breaking music and rockstar presence, Yves is the perfect poster child for Acne’s grunge-drenched vision for the incoming autumn/winter season.

Silhouettes were heavily influenced by the noughties, with pelvis-grazing waists, strappy cargos and paint-splattered jorts cropping up throughout. Explaining the offering’s regular use of denim, creative director Jonny Johansson explained that it “inherently, has a rebellious aura. It’s provocative, it’s rugged”. Adorning the pieces with sprayed-on graphics, firemen hooks and floral prints designed by Carlijn Jacobs, the offering imitated the hot mess lovechild of a cig-chaining cyberpunk and a ‘00s Avril Lavigne. Daring, dreaming and rough around the edges, the Acne Studios AW24 character would be great fun on a night out.
