‘Born to Rewild’ was the rallying cry of Vivienne Westwood, who is championing the cause of rewilding. As well as integrating the message into pinstripe suiting, shirts pyjamas, and cotton underwear, the brand is also supporting rewildingbritain.org.uk which is taking ambitious action for major nature recovery across 30 per cent of Britain by 2030. Nature also ruled on dresses and shirts with copious flower-blocking (the prettiest way to clash your prints).
The Westwood design cannon is so rich and relevant that it would be a crime not to mine it. Keen Westwood-philes will spot the references to collections past. The shredded jeans, first seen in 1991, reappear in organic denim for 2023. As for those infamous AW93 Anglomania tartans, they are now shot through with neon and splashed over everything from corsets and suiting to shoes and bags. Elsewhere, the designer’s obsession with historic fashion played out on smart double breasted jackets with button details borrowed from 18th Century frock coats. Heart motifs, unisex tailoring and curvy platforms rounded out a collection packed with excellent things to wear.
