Molly Goddard: Ready-To-Wear SS23

There are few joys in fashion which match the final procession of a Molly Goddard show. Her signature frocks which froth with tulle and taffeta are like the sweetest confectionaries you’d find displayed in your favourite bakery. This season’s delightful shades of raspberry, sorbet yellow, neon green and icing white only added to their desirability.

In her show notes, Goddard explained she was inspired by the casualness of red carpets before the internet, where people “looked like they were out to have fun”. She consciously took a more laid back approach in concocting this season’s looks. Ruffled evening dresses were cut with the ease of a T-shirt and fashioned from cotton, paired with matching frilly bags and cowboy boots in a wide array of different hues.

Goddard wanted the show to be “slower, messier, more spacious”, with models criss-crossing each other inside the Seymour Leisure Centre. They wore baggy jeans beneath their dresses and sheer skirts, while the brand’s quickly expanding menswear output featured shirred shirts and hooded cardies. Despite their prettiness, these clothes are for living in.
