Eckhaus Latta: Ready-To-Wear SS23

Mike Eckhaus and Zoe Latta were on hand to provide a much-needed breather amidst the chaos that is NYFW. They staged their SS23 show in a community garden disguised within Manhattan’s Alphabet City; the sort of quiet, green refuge you couldn’t possibly imagine existing in a concrete jungle. Eckhaus Latta for the last decade has been spearheaded by the community of creatives which surround the design pairing, and walking into this serene space felt as if stepping into a commune which came uniformed in delightful, striped knits, metallic frocks and T-shirts, and the brand’s signature denim.

Amongst the tranquil troupe were musicians Caroline Polachek and Ethel Cain, contemporary artist Martine Syms and the actress Hari Nef, who wore a standout slip dress dotted with charming, beaded tassels. A cohort of chocolate brown looks mimicking the finish of bubble wrap were paired alongside netted cardies and zip-off shorts. Many pieces came emblazoned in artworks by Matthew Underwood, a close friend of Latta’s who died in 2019. It’s a testament to the duo’s continuous uplifting of all those who have touched their lives, and those who’ve provided the building blocks to help propel Eckhaus Latta from a post-art school project into one of New York’s finest exports.
