August is rather quiet in the world of fashion. Designers are on their holibobs, editors are OOO and the end of summer bliss is the last slice of peace before the storm that is fashion month.
Thankfully, though, Burberry has provided us with a rather spectacular new campaign to whet our appetite for the season ahead. Lensed by Inez and Vinoodh, and styled by Lotta Volkova, the AW22 offering captures the power of community, where models are united and celebrated for their sense of individuality.
Starring the likes of Irina Shayk, Khalil Ghani and Lina Zhang, the images spotlight Riccardo Tisci’s ability to modernise the heritage codes of the brand, featuring classic trench coats turned into ballgowns and vintage-inspired floral lace corset tops paired with knife pleated skirts.
For the campaign’s official film, Burberry features the Compton Cowboys, a Black-owned LA-based non-profit organisation, which uses connections to the outdoors to uplift local African American communities by combatting stereotypes. Burberry pledges to make a donation to the organisation for its contribution to the campaign.
