Fendi and Versace’s infamous fashion swap is finally headed to stores from May 12, and with it comes two brilliant campaign films where legendary supermodels Naomi Campbell and Kristen McMenamy assume the roles of fashion bouncers at club Fendace. Your name’s not down, your not coming in.
First unveiled in a surprise catwalk show last September, the internet-breaking moment saw Donatella Versace and Kim Jones switch jobs for two special pre-fall collections: Fendi by Versace, and Versace by Fendi. The monumental link-up between the two fashion powerhouses saw Donatella recast Fendi through her vision, and vice versa – where safety-pinned gowns, gold baroque prints and micro hemlines met double FF logos, barley-there minis and all-over printed denim.
“It’s a swap rather than a collaboration and, most of all, it is done out of friendship,” said Kim Jones in a statement. “It is the beauty of togetherness after time apart and a celebration of women who have inspired me so much.”
Accompanied by a series of stills shot by Steven Meisel, Alec Maxwell captures the campaign film pairing, where Adut Akech, Amar Akway, Anja Rubik, Anok Yai, Imaan Hammam, and Lina Zhang successfully get access to the dancefloor of club Fendace, dressed in the collection’s eclectic prints and party-primed proportions. Is this luxury fashion’s answer to Berghain?
Shop the Fendace pre-fall 2022 collections online and in Fendi and Versace boutiques from May 12.
