As the fashion pack trudged to and from shows in Milan this weekend, giant moving billboards showcasing JW Anderson’s latest women’s collection made their way across the city. Parked in front of Duomo di Milano, at petrol stations and on street corners, actress Hari Nef was captured by Juergen Teller. embodying a series of witty, cinematic characters – both big-haired and well frocked.
Anderson was set on embedding “the fashion bit into popular culture, taking back elements from popular culture in return”. And so, he fashioned tops out of deflated balloons, paired a hairy skirt with a crop top akin to that of a pool lilo and took party frocks to new metallic extremes. There were two notable silver screen moments, too. The first being hoodies, shirts and trousers based on movie posters of teenage horror classic Carrie, featuring blood-splattered tiaras and the screaming protagonist. There was also the Run Hany collab the designer has been teasing on Instagram, with characters from the 1980s Korean cartoon featuring across cutesy bags and retro trackies.
To top it all off, Teller trekked to Milan to snap the billboards for the collection’s official lookbook. Nef, by Teller, captured again by Teller – a pop-tastic inception that made for one of MFW’s standout moments.
