Ever since the brand’s launch in 2018, Rave Review has been a fascinating, but unusual phenomenon. The brand’s aesthetic could be described as a mix of festival-wear, “Clueless”-like pleats and plaids, and an atmosphere situated somewhere between “Thirteen” and an anthropocene-influenced punk. And somehow, it works.
However, designers Josephine Bergqvist and Livia Schück, LVMH Prize 2020 semi-finalists, don’t rest on their laurels. Their new collection, composed both of physical garments and NFTs, is a deep dive into the label’s multifaceted vision, full of juxtaposing colours and Y2K-inspired, futuristic styling.
For AW22, Bergqvist and Schück deliver their signature styles — like ginormous blanket coats, this time in contrasting hues — but they also provide transparent dresses and jodhpurs-cut pants. Everything is connected by safety pins, chains and tie-ups — just in case the neon tartans and patchwork contrasts don’t impress you enough.
Making for a wardrobe that’s equipped to dress a video game heroine, low-rise pleated skirts and cutouts came paired with the bold plaid and net dresses that look as if a Mortal Combat protagonist joined some underground party collective. After all, this is Rave Review — a little crazy fun never hurt nobody.
As well, Bergqvist and Schück launched a range of NFTs to accompany the material garments. The online tokens, titled “Cryptopanties”, were developed using an energy-efficient methods. Their crypto-creations show lingerie items which have the same patchwork, neon-insanity treatment as the rest of the collection. And if this wasn’t enough, the Swedish designers dedicated their first pair of “Cryptopanties” to Frida Kahlo.
