At just 16-years-old, rising artist Flowerovlove is making big waves across the music scene. Combining fashion and music into one brilliant little bundle, the South London native has had a crazy year. Flowerolove – real name Joyce Cisse – released her debut EP Think Flower earlier this year, whilst also walking multiple catwalks during Paris Fashion Week and even starred in campaigns for brands such as Gucci and Pangaia.
Her inspirational lyrics are mellow, warm and often touch upon important topics including sustainability and preserving the Earth we live on. Now, she releases her latest single titled “Saturday Yawning”. The psych-pop single brings together Joyce’s youthful spirit and nostalgia of past times into one musical masterpiece. Inspired by the feeling of a Friday after the bell rings at school, the song brings forward the relaxing feeling of waking up on a Saturday morning with nothing to do but chill and relax in bed. Radiating cosiness and comfort, “Saturday Yawning” is a taste of what’s to come from this exciting talent. Here, we get to know with Flowerovlove.
- What’s the best thing about being 16-years-old?
“Everyone’s reaction when they find out is ‘GASP, oh my god your six-TEEN?’ It cracks me up every time. Also can’t forget the daily hugs from my mum.”
- If you could walk the catwalk for any brand, which would it be?
“Chanel in the ’90s, thé looks, thé campness everything was just exquisite. Also probably Louis Vuitton. I really really love the world Virgil Abloh created, like that last season was insane.”
- What is your new single, “Saturday Yawning”, all about?
“Saturday Yawning is about that refreshing feeling on Friday knowing tomorrow you can get that Saturday lie-in, the carefree, liberated feeling of Saturday.”
- What’s one song you wish you’d written?
“Such a good question, definitely ‘Mrs. Magic’ By Strawberry Guy.”
- What’s your party trick?
“I can roll my tongue in a shape of a flower.”
- If you could collaborate with any musician – dead or alive – who would it be?
“Tame Impala. Kevin Parker is genius. Kevin Parker is music Jesus. Kevin Parker is perfection.”
- One album you think has been instrumental to your sound?
“Ah, well the Currents album by Tame Impala.”
- Where do you feel most creative?
“Mainly when I take walks or go for runs and when I’m with my brother.”
- What’s one thing you couldn’t live without?
“I don’t care if this sounds cliche but music. I mean oxygen is important I guess but music is essential.”
- What’s next for you?
“Turning my dreams into reality.”
