Guests were all ferried to the Miami Marine Bay Stadium where the Louis Vuitton spin-off show was to take place. What was planned as one of the biggest show ever put on by the brand, what they had not anticipated was the tragic death of Virgil Abloh, the brand’s menswear creative director. Guests were all a mix of editors, customers, influencers, longtime fans of the brand and of course, close friends and family of the Abloh.
The show started with LV’s CEO, Michael Burke, making a speech where he told how this show was born out of an idea him and Abloh had 3 years ago, based around the idea of a coming of age narrative, because inspiring and empowering the younger generation was what defined Abloh. You could have heard a pin drop and Burke’s voice cracked as he gave the speech.
The looks that were shown were the same 72 looks from June 2021 with 10 new looks- every look, meticulously planned and styled by Ib Kamara, showed the late designer’s dedication.
Following the final look, his whole creative team all came out in tears paying their respect to the man himself. Then Abloh’s voice played where he reminded us how little time we have and to not waste it. The fireworks that came at the end was truly a spectacular homage to the man and his vision.
