I say ‘Westwood?’ You say ‘Corsets!’ The brand is synonymous with traditional feminine underpinnings, served with a dollop of signature subversion. Vintage Westwood corsets are among fashion’s most collectable items, and with this in mind, Andreas Kronthaler did not disappoint. Dame Viv sat in the front row as he sent out swagged, bustier dresses with extra padding on the hips and bust for good measure. Many of the fabrics used were deadstock from the Westwood archive. The deshabille didn’t stop there. Men wore trousers with slits at the back to reveal a cheeky flash of buttock, and both girls and boys wore Bermuda shorts which fell away at the back for the full moon effect – as if the wearer had been caught in the act and had to dress in a hurry.
The romping boudoir theme continued throughout with the bride at the end appearing to emerge from behind a set of curtains. She looked divine from the front and devilish, in a satin bodysuit from behind. This was sauce pot Westwood at its finest.
