Dior: Pre-Fall 2021

2021 is taking shape. After the heaviness of 2020, the key ingredients are optimism, defiance and a lightness of touch. “Now, we desire something that gives us energy,” said Dior’s Maria Grazia Chiuri, who unveiled her Pre-fall 2021 collection today.  Inspiration for her upbeat, vibrant collection came from Fiorucci, the iconic Italian brand, which brought a frolicking sense of kitsch, colour and fun to 1970s fashion.

The Milan store was a mecca for the young Chiuri and her friends and the designer said she wanted to recreate the “same energy, same love, the same surprise,” she found there, in her Pre-fall collection. Silver lambskin leather jumpsuits, lashings of leopard print, red patent hotpants, mirror sequin two pieces, ombré denim and logo-toile ponchos were all in the cheerful Dior mix. Chiuri also enlisted Maripol, the former art director of Fiorucci’s New York flagship, to shoot the collection using her playful Polaroid technique.  That’s the spirit.
