Who would’ve thought a social media platform could turn into your go-to shopping destination? Forget looking at specific stores or brands – it’s all about what clobber Bella Hadid and Dua Lipa are flaunting on the gram. There’s a fashion world of its own prime and waiting to sell to you as you scroll. We’ve narrowed down our top 10 Insta brands to support this holiday season.
Taylor Hollan
Based in Newport Beach, California, Taylor Hollan is proving sustainable fashion doesn’t have to be boring. The mastermind behind the brand, Taylor Smith, collects old fabrics and second-hand, thrifted clothing to create one-of-a-kind garments that are creating plenty of noise across social media. The brand’s signatures are unique, patchwork pieces made by overlocking scraps of wool together. If its bright colours and varied textured you’re after, get adding to basket.
Fuchsia Shaw
The Hackney-based brand – run by Amy Shaw – sticks to neutral tones, suit co-ords and seasonless. Head to their Insta for story insights into the brand’s design and manufacturing process, as well as those all-important links to shop, shop, shop!
1xBlue
21-year-old and knitwear enthusiast, Lois Saunders, makes reconstructed sports memorabilia as part of a wider effort to produce kinder fashion to our planet. By using lockdown to focus on the development of her brand, Saunders has caught the attention of musician Chi Virgo and model Mia Reagan. We particularly love the corseted tops which are actually made from footy scarves. Football crazy, Lois Saunders mad.
Sio Studio
Okay, Sio Studio actually sells from Depop, but the brand’s Instagram account an ode to bleach dyed denim and structured mesh tops. This year, many of us attempted to tie-dye our old jeans and let’s face it, they looked pretty s***. Luckily for us, Sio Studio is an expert. All items are handmade in London, from raw edge bandeaus to refined, structured corsets.
GCDS
Italian made clothing brand GCDS – ‘God Can’t Destroy Streetwear’ – already shows in Milan and has an established fanbase. Saweetie, Dua Lipa and Devon Lee Carson are all part of the brand’s cult following. Known for its ironic graphics, memorable slogans and capsule collection collaborations –Hello Kitty and Tom and Jerry have all joined forces with the brand at some point – GCDS captures the URL zeitgeist.
Fanci Club
Vietnamese designer, Duy Tran, was inspired by John Galliano and Vivienne Westwood when coming up with the brand Fanci Club. Contrasting fabrics brought together in exposed, raw edges seem to dominate, as do gothic silk co-ords. Again selling via Depop, Fanci Club keeps it cool, calm and sensual.
Oriens
Parsons School of Design student Shirley Tang is behind Oriens, the brand catching the eyes of everyone from Rico Nasty and SZA, to Kali Uchis. Tang puts no limits to the materials she works with. Skimpy, knitted bikinis and mesh patchwork twinsets are amongst some of the brand’s most experimental designs.
Maison Cleo
Mother-daughter duo, Marie and Cléo Dewet, are responsible for the French brand Maison Cleo. With Net-a-Porter collaborations and fans like Emily Ratajkowski Maison Cleo is somewhat of an overnight success. Whilst Marie runs the socials and logistical side of the business, seamstress Cléo makes each piece herself from leftover and scrap materials. Keep it in the family, we say!
Sinead Gorey
Emerging designer Sinead Gorey makes rave-a-roo fashions perfect for dancathons in your living rooom. Acidic hues, ring tops and psychedelic distortion are all part of the London-based designer’s lexicon. Not only that, but Gorey sources used-waterproof nylon and breathable taffeta for her ensembles. Say goodbye to dancefloor sweat patches!
La Manso
There are seemingly endless amounts of jewellery stores on Instagram, with resin pieces taking the lead. La Manso’s mantra is “Slide us on your fingers and stop counting the carats of your rings, because plastic is fantastic.” Creating striking, chunky rings with gold studs is its expertise. the brand is a go-to for Miley Cyrus (she even wore some La Manso in her “Midnight Sky music video).
