Rodarte is a brand for those who dream. Since Kate and Laura Mulleavy founded the label back in 2005, the sister design-duo have swiftly become titans of fantasy dressing. The frilly gowns – embellished in crystals and doused in gentle hues – which have come to define the brand are the sort you save for the fanciest of dinners, or swankiest of parties. Kept in the back of the wardrobe in pristine condition; special occasion staples. So what happens, then, when there’s no going-out at all? Is a Rodarte gown appropriate to go about your day within a global pandemic? Apparently so.
SS21 saw the Mulleavy sisters adapt their vision for the brand, without losing any of its Rodarte traits. Expect floral jumpers with lacey necklines, sugary pink tracksuits and silky pyjama sets. Ethereal gowns swim in roses of different sizes, worn with dainty bobby socks and lace-trimmed church gloves throughout. As whimsical as ever, these are the sort of clothes that can whisk you away, whilst your feet remain firmly grounded.
