Although we may have spent the most part of 2020 away from one another, we have all found our own ways of staying connected with our nearest and dearest. From Zoom pub quizzes and four-way Facetimes, to that brief moment when we were all on Houseparty (remember that old thing?) Although Valentino’s Pierpaolo Piccioli wasn’t able to be with his creative community during lockdown, the designer believes that we are always connected through empathy, and coming out of lockdown our bonds will be stronger. This ethos was transferred to the Valentino AW20 campaign, where Piccioli recruited members of the Valentino family to be photographed in pieces of the collection by someone they spent their lockdown with. The campaign features a stellar cast that includes everyone from Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington and Adut Akech, to Laura Dern, Gwyneth Paltrow and Janet Mock. Valentino has marked the release of the campaign by donating 1 million euros to the Italian Lazzaro Spallanzani Hospital in Rome, an Italian hub which has been battling hard against Covid-19. The brand will continue to work with the institution as the world continues to be stricken by the virus.
