Nicholas Ghesquière’s Pre-Fall 2020 offering is an A-list affair. Following on from his Hollywood line-up for last year’s pre-collection, the head of Louis Vuitton’s womenswear upped the ante and introduced an even more extensive cast that perfectly embodies his world. With “fashion is a novel,” as his mantra for the season, Ghesquière assigned each of his muses a character from an imaginary book to portray.
Sophie Turner wears a cream suit and poses with a cane as the head of The Devil’s Mansion, while star of Pose and American Horror Story Angelica Ross dons a schoolgirl-on-her-way-to-the-Alps lewk as the protagonist of The Escape Room. With a playful spirit encouraging of an other-worldly adventure emerges a wearable library in which each of the outfits tells their own tale, especially when combined with the personality wearing them. The literary inspiration materialises in the graphics seen in the collection too – Ghesquière used the original cover of William Peter Blatty’s 1971 cult science-fiction novel The Exorcist on colourful t-shirts. Despite being pure fantasy, we’re seriously crossing all of our fingers for Netflix to take some of these as casting suggestions for their future projects. Robyn as a Night Chaser? We’d binge-watch a full season of that.
