The work of the London-based artist and filmmaker Sharna Osborne filled TV and LED screens dotted around the Miu Miu show space in Paris, yesterday afternoon. Osborne’s work shifts between the moving image and the still: she creates freeze-frames and operates at the bleeding edge. Baby-dolls and black voile cap-sleeved dresses, your dad’s cardi and a camo-print fleece; just a handful of some serious heirloom sparkles and your gran’s bag. These were just a few of the normally disparate wardrobes of various women at various points in their lives brought together at Mrs Prada’s knockout Miu Miu show.
Who is this “time-hop” girl and where was she going? These were Miu Miu’s own freeze-frame moments: treasured pieces of clothing from back then and now, seemingly thrown together in some arbitrary act of guerrilla styling. But it was more considered than that. Mrs Prada is the weather vein of fashion: her ability to point out the direction of the hard-to-define headwinds – the next trends. For autumn? Well, granny just took a trip down Carnaby Street via the nearest and coolest festival. What a wonderful brain Mrs Prada has. It was a beautiful show.
