Construction and reconstruction successfully run through with the avante-grade. At yesterday’s beautifully colourful Issey Miyake show in the centre of Paris: a riot of brights separates and dresses in tech-y new-style fabrics were the starting point for designer Yoshiyuki Miyamae’s autumn collection. No new development, no “out-there” colour combination is out of reach of Miyamae who has established himself solidly at the storied house. The long cape-coats and wide trousers; the super-easy tees and tops: all speak directly to a Miyake customer – a woman of taste. And she’s busy! Her diary of art-openings and theatre visits requires the kind of designed and statement-making “go anywhere” clothes the house do so well. Think of Miyake as the gallerist’s wardrobe go-to: a designer who combines his love or art and craft with modernity. It’s here where the clever and arty get dressed.
