For a fifth anniversary present, traditionally you’re supposed to give a wooden gift. So it was particularly fitting that Rejina Pyo’s minimal show set was constructed of wood, as she celebrated five years of her eponymous brand. The models passed through large wooden frames that appeared at intervals along the catwalk, which snaked through three rooms of a gutted space in the centre of Covent Garden, paying homage to, as the show notes explained ‘Rejina’s experience in building her home.’ Not only the set but Pyo’s AW19 collection explored the process of constructing and forming something from its foundations, and the importance of making things that are built to last longer than a season.
Not only taking into account of the physical quality of her pieces by carefully considering techniques and fabrications (vegan leather, silk, Italian laminated wool etc), the collection possessed a stylish functionality, versatility and wearability. It really came as no surprise that aside from the journalists and buyers, her front row consisted of her devoted wearers who also happen to be London’s street-style darlings. From Pyo’s dresses to outerwear, via her skirts, suiting, knitwear and signature shoes – the appeal was undeniable. These were clearly clothes created by a woman for women to enjoy wearing and want to cherish, which is Pyo’s USP.
