Another day, another Pre-Fall show, another major centrepiece. Last night, it was the torch of Lady Liberty that took centre stage, as Lady Versace showed her brand new vision in New York City. It was the @versace Pre-Fall 2019 show, and it was pretty major. Trust Donatella to collide the high-glam Italian donnas with the bougie Uptown ladies, creating a silhouette of a confident global woman that looks equally fabulous wherever she might be. The Versace gal is out on the prowl, wearing the best of the brand’s heritage, rehashed in a totally fresh way. There were gold safety pins and scarf-like prints, reminiscent of those glory days (and nights) in 1990s Miami that were so definitive for the Haus of Versace.
This look into the archive has now become somewhat of a norm for Donatella who’s already proved her knack for reviving fashions and creating a spectacle out of it. On this occasion, the overall feel was completely youthful, speaking to a generation that definitely wasn’t there for the first time round, but is absolutely ready to consume the brightly coloured vinyl vinyl dresses and heart-printed suits, all completed with signature gold hardware. The final look – a nod to JLo’s truly iconic Grammy dress from 2000, this time in a heart-printed organza and worn by Amber Valletta – was the perfect ending to this technicolour Versace rhapsody. Rooted in reality, but with a slightly fantastical outlook on the future. That’s the Donatella way, and we’re all for it.
