Off to the races at Longchamp we went to see fashion’s most thoroughbred brand. Hermés, with its horsey heritage was in its element. The models walked a sand runway against a huge mirrored bank which reflected the sky changing sky. The clothes melded horsemanship and seamanship with plenty of bridle fastenings and boat ropes for detailing. A sailor smock melded into a parka, blanket coats came in high-vis orange and a blacksmith’s apron wrapped into a chic dress. The fabrications at Hermès are always ingeniously crafted. Some pieces were made from a special leather mesh and cage-like tunics came in latticed leather. It was graceful. It was powerful. It was Hermès.
