Emporio Armani: Ready-to-wear & Menswear SS19

There are some things that only Mr Giorgio Armani can do – like close the departures hall at Linate airport so that his 3000 fashion show guests could swan through airport security unhindered by normal travellers. Armani held his show in a vast aircraft hanger – the one with the huge Emporio Armani sign atop, which since it was erected in the eighties is the first thing anyone sees when landing in Milan. After sailing through security, show goers found themselves in the vast hangar where Armani had erected a huge catwalk/concert arena complete with mosh pits and suspended big-screens. It was like being at the O2.

First we were treated to a co-ed fashion show. The look was youthful and sporty – an elevated take on athleisure – with denim jumpsuits, silk duster coats and plenty of sweatshirts emblazoned with the Armani signature eagle. These were interspersed with the brand’s classic relaxed tailoring and plenty of sequinned sparkle for the evening. As the great designer took his bow, the big screens around the venue flashed up a message “Let me entertain you” and Robbie Williams burst into an energetic set which had even the most jaded fashion types up in their feet singing along to his hits. He dedicated his final song “My Way” to Mr Armani whom he called a living legend. That he is. With this epic and vastly entertaining show, he also proved the power, scale and prowess of his Armani world.
