Half a century of sheer fabulosity. That was the celebratory point last night at the Ralph Lauren show where the brand (and the man behind it) honoured the 50th anniversary of classic Americana fashion that’s been redefining the vision of the industry for five decades. Set against the lush backdrop of Central Park’s Bethesda Terrace, the show wasn’t just on the catwalk. It was a full-on Ralph Lauren experience – an immersive digital installation celebrating the brand’s history, a catwalk show with just about 150 models walking down the catwalk, paying homage to the irreverent style we all love, the post-show private dinner…
And then there were the invitees, all A-listers, all dressed in head-to-toe archival Ralph Lauren. Anne Hathaway, Oprah Winfrey, Taylor Hill, Iman… All these stunning women dressed in generations of Lauren, proving why this man is such a genius. His clothes went beyond just the models walking down the catwalk – they celebrate real women, bringing the inner beauty to the outside. The catwalk collection itself was beautiful too, just like an album of greatest hits with some new (great) songs added to the sound. Congratulations Mister Lauren – here’s to another 50!
