Ermenegildo Zegna: Menswear Spring/ Summer 2019

Who is the Zegna man? He’s intelligent and aware of the latest iPhone gadgets, likes to dress up, but also enjoys being comfortable. He has a sense of humour, lots to do, and a wardrobe to match. Whoever he is, there were exactly 48 Zegna men that walked down a mirrored catwalk in front of the stunning Palazzo Mondadori on the outskirts of Milan. The modernist building designed by the Brazilian architectural legend Oscar Niemeyer served as the perfect backdrop for the Ermenegildo Zegna Couture XXX Spring/ Summer 2019 collection. A mouthful, right? Well, the collection was no less elaborate than the title itself. The couture aspect kicked in with the crisp tailoring that we already associate with the brand, but the triple X represented the infusion of danger and fun we didn’t know a heritage fashion house like Zegna could pull off. Yet they did. What he subtly implied in the last collection, the brand’s creative director Alessandro Sartori was now shouting – PRINT! COLOUR! SPORT! STREET! There was an abundance of completely unexpected elements that were harmoniously tied into a collection of menswear that surpassed place, age and occasion. It was for anyone, anywhere, anytime. For what we took as a charming nod to Pride Month, the looks walked the catwalk tonally – going from dark greens through neutrals, blues and a splash of yellow, all of which led into a flawless crimson finale. What a way to start our Milan adventure!
