Thom Browne: Ready-to-Wear AW18

Strike a pose in your Thom Browne. That was the motto as Madonna’s ‘Vogue’ played. We were looking at girls, hair slicked static upwards and out in their ballooning grey pants and camel coats ready to complete the abstract artworks on the canvases in front of them. “Lady painters painting portraits of ladies of all shapes and of all sizes.” according to the press notes. We do love to love ladies. This was Thom Browne’s second collection in Paris. Pumping up the volume. It was a whirlwind of grey flannel, moulded corsets dissecting grey woollen skirts and jackets. Tiny feathers made up mini dresses and coats, lightly oscillating with each step. Statuesque marble in trompe l’oeil slid around and down tops, leopard print softly appeared on bags and mesmerising stripes played out on wide legged pants, tailored blazers and mini vests. The pants were down on the thighs, a whole new level of slouchy. Pearls were embroidered and flannel was lightly appliquéd to form flowers. And of course it wouldn’t be a Thom Browne show without Hector the dog and his canine friends. Thom Browne has always been about exaggeration and since he has let loose in Paris his imagination has fully amped up. Paris and Thom are a perfect match.
