Elie Saab: Couture SS18

Rewind, please. We’re going back to the 1920s, via the ‘70s. Elie Saab’s Haute Couture collection was no slavish recreation of an era but the spirit of the 20’s alive and kicking. Or should we say shimmying. That’s what these girls did, strutting their stuff, walk, walk fashion baby. Marvin Gaye’s ‘Got To Give It Up To You’ was on the decks, ringing loud, paving the way for these women in their stomping ground: “Move your body, ooh baby, you dance all night to the groove and feel alright.” Yes these girls were grooving. But let’s get down to business.

Dresses were indecently short and floor sweepingly long. Classic Saab. Exaggerated bow necklines, marabou feathers, vivacious gold and silver sequins flashing bright. Hectic. Jewels and glasses were overloaded, lavish with gold chains, pearls and earrings bouncing. They may have stopped asking who’s wearing what on the red carpet but we can spot an Elie Saab without being told. Excess glamour and good times. A collection for “A woman who loves passionately, lives largely and dresses beautifully.” Well, aren’t we all that woman? Elie Saab, we’re coming for you. Shake yo’ thang kind of clothes.
