I know, I know, we’ve harped on about rainbow colour palettes one too may times, but can we just say, in the case of a certain Paul Smith rainbow colour palette. On the darker hue scale admittedly but, a rainbow nonetheless. Monochrome- does that word only apply to colours that are black or white? Well here it was shades of one colour- elegance. That rainbow song you were taught in nursery made real. In the shape of clothes. Think of this as the definition of simplicity. So classically executed as to become genderless. Well it was a joint men’s and women’s show so gender does become a kind of a non issue. And also, wasn’t it YSL’s smoking jacket, which he witnessed while actually attending the original show that debuted it, that inspired Sir Paul Paul Smith to take up design? When it comes to clothes for boys worn by girls and vice versa, Paul Smith was ahead of the game a long time ago, so maybe it’s time for him to reclaim his crown. Think of this as an essay in tailoring. Sharply cut and well fitted suiting and all that that phrase implies. If it’s done well it suits everyone. As evidenced by the pictures you see here.
