It was Maya Angelou who said, “I love to see a young girl go out and grab the world by the lapels. Life’s a bitch. You’ve got to go out and kick ass”. Now, if the wisdom of Ms Angelou is to be adhered to word for word, which we suggest it should be, then Wooyoungmi’s AW18 Menswear collection is the ideal opportunity to heed her advice and punt some posterior. How do we reach such a conclusion? Lapels. Lapels on top of lapels poking out from underneath lapels. More lapels than you’d ordinarily know what to do with, but with the words of Ms Angelou ringing in your conscience- grab them. Grab them with all your might and proceed to kick ass. Though not too hard- because these models wore very pointy boots which would hurt if they decided to kick back and otherwise looked fragile, dainty even, in elegant shirting, tight leather trousers and tasseled earrings that rounded off androgynous, tailored looks. Tidy, minimal and squeaky clean- the Wooyoungmi man would make for an excellent flat mate.
