Haider Ackermann: Menswear AW18

There’s always something romantic about a Haider Ackermann collection. A sort of longing for times that came before, travel that permeates every seam. Julie Christie in Dr Zhivago but remade for the modern man. I mean, is there anything more romantic than that film? And how good would you look, standing against a snowy landscape dressed in silk rather than fur. Yes, it’d be cold, but sometimes suffering, and a minor case of frostbite have to be bared, because is true love really real if it does’t look the part? Be honest with yourself, who hasn’t wished themselves a silk swathed, snowy, mountainous backdrop for the first declaration of ‘I love you’?

But we’re not here to talk about that, there are clothes to be discussed. Classic Haider. So heavily ingrained with his own brand, any casting effort goes out the window, because from look 1 to 30-something your mind automatically projects his face onto every model sent down that runway. Which is kind of the point of having your own label- it’s an extension of you. Julie Christie only bared her soul once, and protested too much in a fur hood, and I’m pretty sure, covered from head to foot in thermals that weren’t visible. Which begs the question, if a fur clad Julie Christie is the pinnacle of fictional mid century romance, is Haider the king of making that dream come true?
