Incoming: the new all-white low-top from Great British shoe brand Church’s. These most excellent cobblers, based in Northampton, have spent hours constructing mock-ups, then scrapping them, redesigning and then tweaking some more to create possibly the maximum amount of minimalism in a single shoe. Note the lack of fuss: no logos or nonsense or secret-symbol nods to those in the know. The only thing you’d know from first glance is this is made from quality leather. The workers at Church’s – one of England’s oldest shoe factories – all live locally and have, over the years, fine-tuned their skills and passed them down to their apprentices, ensuring that absolute level of quality continues. As though a tin of the whitest paint you’ve ever seen has spilled over the most minimal trainers, these things are bright! The picture in this collage doesn’t do it justice, but all those clean sneaker-freakers and box-fresh obsessives out there are going to spin on a sixpence when they see them. I can’t tell you how white they are – it’s actually a bit mental. For those of you not in the know, sneaker-freakers are those men who carry scraps of towelling and a bottle of trainer whitener with them everywhere they go – “Because you never know, it could rain and dirty my super-white sneakers.” Bless ’em.
