All eyes were on Mr Valentino – the original one – at the Valentino show, earlier this afternoon. The 85-year-old designer and ex-creative of the fabled Roman house sat front row next to supermodel turned political pin-up turned singer songwriter Ms Carla Bruni.
Then came the girls: a tutorial in how to dress a dynamic and spirited woman in clothes to suit her every mood. Saturday night sparkle frocks, sequinned tunics and wide legged palazzo pants – so far so classic Valentino. Then came an injection of modernity from the floor up: a new diamond-encrusted scuba shoe plus oodles of spikes and sandals to keep the customer happy. Standout bag? Valentino’s new long-strap bag with added waist strap – think: bum bag meets school-run-mum.
