Jeremy Scott: Ready-to-Wear SS18

Happy birthday Jeremy Scott. He’s turning twenty. Well, Jeremy Scott the brand is. We wouldn’t want to cast aspersions about Jeremy’s age because he is very very young indeed. So could we call this a greatest hits? Model wise, certainly. There was Devon. There was Liberty. There was Coco. And then a new wave of lady supers – Gigi, Joan, Romy et al – all the ladies who have walked for him over the years. And clothes wise there was something of the hits too. Viva avant garde was the statement that accompanied the collection – a celebration of twenty years of pushing the fashion envelope. Which meant sniffs of Jeremy past through nods to his legendary shows in Paris – futuristic sculptural rings that hung around the model’s necks, giant jewel beading, playful riffs on couture techniques, slogans en Francais.

But as with any Jeremy Scott show, this was no one thing – because who wants one inspiration point when you have, well, many? Jeremy always works best when he’s serving up more more more. So out Mr. Scott spat a trail of pop culture references – there was a whole sexy military thing, splashes of his signature cartoon prints, a python knicker, slouchy, oversized sportswear. Backpacks that let forth a sea anemone-like train of ruffles behind the models. Because… why not? And there was lots more too, but it was all quite overwhelming so you’ll just have to look at the pictures. All that’s left to say is here’s to twenty years of Jeremy Scott – and twenty more after that.
