Fucking Fabulous? You better believe it. The name of Tom Ford’s latest new fragrance and the two words, which encapsulate, easily, this 56-year-old mega-designer’s ridiculously successful career. From Gucci to Saint Laurent to Tom Ford International now one of the worlds most powerful fashion businesses the designer created with his long-time collaborator and group Chairman, Domenico De Sole: there aren’t many who are, in fact *that* Fucking Fabulous.
To last night’s show in New York. As with all big brands these days, the digital preamble began on social media beforehand. Cue Gigi and Kendal blowing kisses to ToFo’s millions of Insta Story fans out there. Kendall’s hair piece, cropped and combed over one eye, looked more Kris Jenner than Kris Jenner.
And then the show and the girls! First-face Binx in caramel satin jacket with killer kicky shoulders, even more menswear in its line than his famous longer Gucci versions (now going for mega bucks on eBay.) Then bang! A hot pink jacket and a lilac leather bomber; an incredible crystal t-shirt dress you’d kill your best friend for… Ms Ford was off to a ’80s night at the coolest disco in the city. Black leather trousers, a micro mini, popper-bottom bodies worn with lo-slung combats… on and on the catwalk-cum-dance floor filled with hi-volt, big shoulder glam.
And for the red carpet – a highly competitive blood sport amongst fashion designer PRs vying to dress the world’s most famous actresses – ruched, tube-dress-style frocks, more covered this season. One off-shoulder black number will be up for “dress of the season”.
