Fiorucci Are Back

Always felt it was a bit of a missed opportunity pour moi that I was not alive circa 1974 and thus never experienced Studio 54. Can’t think of a more natural habitat than wearing acres of chiffon, popping a quaalude and dancing to Diana Ross as four tonnes of glitter falls on my head. All apart from that whole white horse situation. I’m a bit afraid of horses, every since I rode a mini pony in Iceland and suffered a panic attack somewhere on the side of a glacier (another story). Fantasies can though (at least in part) be played out with this week’s news that Milanese brand Fiorucci are re-launching after almost 20 years. Founded by Elio Fiorucci in 1967, they basically became official outfitters for the club – as notes delivered into our inboxes yesterday said, “he made shopping theatre before every brand decided to put on a show. He was the first to exploit pop art, music and celebrity. Along the way, he made disco rock at Studio.” Think: stretch jeans, slogan tees, leopard prints etc etc. They’ve just launched a special pop-up in Selfridges (open now on the third floor) and in September will open a their very own flagship on Brewer Street in London, a street which happens to be mere yards from the office. We’re practically biting off our own limbs in anticipation. Until then, you will find us scrolling through the ah-mazing archive of images they’ve re-released above, which include ass, underboob and Madonna. Just a few of our favourite things.
