Anna Sui’s having a bit of a decorate. As in, her house. And it was this process that inspired her AW17 collection. Not in the sense that she sent the models down the catwalk dribbled in paint or wearing headpieces made from a bit of coving and an old stencil, but instead by interior designers working in the 40s and 50s. In particular, Eloise de Wolfe, her that did homes for Hollywood sorts, like Dorothy di Frasso, and threw tonnes of fabalas parties besides, like her legendary 1938 Circus Ball for Elsa Schiaparelli. And, like Ms Wolfe’s designs, this was more is more is more. Like decorating, Sui said. Throwing on layer over layer. A touch of Victoriana, a sprinkle of Seventies NY and pretty much all that came in between – rich brocades, pussybows, ruffles, lace, beading, velvet – etc etc. Oh my!
