Louis Vuitton Menswear Pops Up In Selfridges

Look. A giant giraffe. Or maybe just life-sized. Either way, it’s big. And plonked right in the middle of Selfridges, with, as the images above demonstrate, a Louis Vuitton bag hanging upon its large, extended tongue. Obviously said giraffe is not, in fact, real – but instead, a sculpture, part of LV’s brand new menswear pop-up in the iconic department store. The space, and afformentioned giraffe, were designed by London artist-duo the Chapman Brothers, who, if you cast your mind back, also provided the animal-based illustrations that adorned LV’s SS17 accessories. Those illustrations were inspired by Kim Jones time in Africa as a youf, and can also be found, quite literally, all over the walls of the brand new 76m² space. Like a Vuitton safari, without any need to leave W1. As Jones said of the collection, “there’s always something a little London hidden somewhere, though. This time it is the influence of Punk, albeit via Africa, where Frank Marshall’s “Renegades” portrait series of Botswana biker gangs in heavy leather depicts the fusion of two disparate aesthetics. Add a third, the French elegance of Louis Vuitton.” The pop-up, combining ready-to-wear, accessories and leather goods, will also have a special Denim Bar with two new exclusive styles of jeans, made specially for Selfridges.

The pop up is open now until January 15th, with a special SS17 show preview from the 15th December
