We are devotees of an all-black look here at Ten Towers. This is particularly applied to myself, who, on many occasions have been deemed by Will to resemble a “large black sack”. Which actually kind of goes against the point I’m about to make, that unlike horizontal stripes, lame or pleather, black is slimming. And, considering our current hog body state, that is a much appreciated attribute when it comes to an item of clothing. So what does this have to do with the event that Dior Homme held in Beijing last night? Well, they had a black carpet. Instead of a red one. Which made me wonder whether stepping upon it in swathed in black could, actually, make me disappear completely. What’s more slimming than being reduced to a small floating head? Anyway, I digress – the event, at Beijing’s SKP mall, was all to celebrate the launch of the aptly-named Black Carpet collection from Dior Homme, a capsule collection of formalwear from Kris Van Assche. Van Assche said to WWD at the event, “the idea of the Black Carpet was to convey the energy and rebel attitude of the runway collection on a capsule collection of eveningwear while playing with the embellishment codes and the know-how of Dior. Reworking the evening suit by pushing it in more extreme interpretations.” Guests to trot the black carpet included equestrian Alex Hau Tian, table tennis player Ma Long and actor Li Yifeng.
