As the saying goes: all good things must come to an end. Yesterday marked the final day of CFDA New York Fashion Week Mens and Garth’s fabulous adventures in the big apple. Which is good. He seems a bit hot. So what did Day 3 hold? Here’s our highlights..
First up: Todd Snyder. “I am obsessed with Cyclops from X Men. He had an element of danger with his banana-clip laser visors glasses. If he accidentally gave you a wink across a room, you would be sizzled quicker than a Peking duck over Chinese New Year. James Marsden and my eyes did meet over the catwalk at Todd’s show. ” Hey J”. No I’m not Eddie Redmayne. Begin to wonder what would look best on James from the show? Oh I know the matching blue tracksuit, yes. Ready to save the mutants from Magneto. But sexy enough for a night in on the sofa with a deliveroo.”
The guys at Orley care about the product, where a lot of brands falling short today. With tight margins and big overheads, making the label cost more that the yarn, apparently. “Where is your knitwear made?” I ask. “The finish and weight feels quality.” “We have 3 different Italian manufacturers.” “Retail cost?” “$300”. Not bad, considering you cant even get a designer shirt in this town for under $1000. Their charm and drive is refreshing in the 40 degree heat.
I remember many John Varvatos shows in that Italian sauna – Milan. This season, I find myself in the equally unbearable heat in NYC, but now I’m in the Roxy Hotel very chilled basement sipping a delicious cocktail. This is nice. The models come out like Brat Pitt extras from 90s cult movie – Interview with a Vampire. Textured asymmetrical Victorian jackets with stretched knits and white jeans. Boys in search of blood. Or maybe just another cocktail. “Don’t bite me, I bruise easily”.
