Christopher Shannon: Menswear SS17

“Denim, functionality and hard-wearing textiles are at the heart of the Christopher Shannon Menswear Spring/Summer 2017”, and while it’s probably bad form to start a ‘review’, with the first line of the press release, whatever, there was a lot of denim here, so the line works better than anything we can come up with at the moment. Anyway, back to the denim, there was a sporty quality to it. It was fashioned into zip up tracksuit tops and worn with matching jeans and shorts. It was distressed, shredded to nothingness, cut out, sewn in panels, patched with chevron symbols, emblazoned with cheeky takes on the Sports Direct logo, ‘Hater’s Direct”. “No Ideas Guaranteed”. And worn with that very sort of eighties drawstring sweatshirt thing that came in faded neon colours, that bring to mind a washed out Global Hypercolour t-shirt, when it stops changing colour. Remember those? The press notes mentioned a vibe that’s ‘Party’s over, reality check’. Weirdly though this felt like the party’s just beginning.
