For my 21st birthday I travelled solo to New York. Everyone told me I was crazy to go alone, but what better company than myself? Like all of my solo expeditions it included all the best kind of things; sightseeing, food, drinks, and of course, men. One of my best experiences whilst I was there was a trip to the Whitney to see a Jeff Koons exhibition. Unfortunately, I don’t have the funds to get to New York any time soon but the good news is that Koons is coming to town. London town. And for the first time in 7 years. Oh we’ve missed you.
Held at the Newport Street Gallery and curated by fellow artiste, Damien Hirst, the exhibition, named ‘Now’ has work that spans over 35 years from paintings and sculpture to works on paper and such and such. Not being a proper art critic I can’t say much more than that, but the word from the real expert slash curator slash critic, Norman Rosenthal, is that the exhibition is a “manifestations of a joyful acceptance of American culture”. And if that doesn’t persuade you enough to go there are lots of big and shiny things to take selfies. So go, go, go this Bank Holiday weekend. Eat some food, drink some cocktails, meet some men but most importantly be like Lady Gaga – “one second I’m a Koons, then suddenly the Koons is me.” Don’t just see Koons, be Koons.
Jeff Koons: Now at Newport Street Gallery, from 18 May – 16 October 2016
