So, the press release tells us that for Resort 2017, Andreas Melbostad worked on “wardrobe’s iconic staples, which he reworked to create new hybrids infused with the brand’s signature utilitarian feel combined with an early Nineties’ attitude.” Which we are going to interpret as a kind of melding of one garment to another, a task that we have all tried at some point or another via scissors, safety pins, studs and a glue gun, which invariably never works – but does here because Andreas is 1) a professional and 2) a very good designer of clothing. So think of these clothes as transformers, where a bomber jacket becomes an offer the shoulder dress, a biker jacket becomes bustier, a bit like if your clothes were to mate with one another behind your back, only to create a baby that’s more beautiful than you can ever imagine. There’s also a very 2017 (sounds futuristic, non?) take on the gladiator boot. Overall message: do not mess with the Diesel Black Gold lady. And for gents? Well there’s a “utilitarian spirit”, apparently, which explains those wide-leg parachute trousers, a pair of trousers that fulfill a fantasy of mine I didn’t yet know I had. As for the rest, to borrow once again from the press release: “hybrid constructions take center stage in the men’s collection. Bomber and denim jackets, as well as shirts and parkas, are combined for new outwear designs.”
