Mercedes-Benz Presents Mary Katrantzou At China Fashion Week

Finale

“Dolly on crack,” wrote Natalie of Mary Katrantzou’s AW16 show, first revealed to the world at London Fashion Week last month. And when it comes to Ms Parton, this is a lady that knows what she’s talking about. She once treated the office to a full-length, accapella rendition of the 1971 hit Coat Of Many Colours. It was beautiful. And, like anything that has such a sprinkling of Dolly, Mary’s aforementioned show was also beautiful. So beautiful, in fact, that it just demanded to be shown twice. And in a different continent. So that’s exactly what Mary K did with the help of Mercedes Benz and their International Designer Exchange Program, doing it all over again at China Fashion Week. See, Mary, I always told you I would cross continents for you!

Anyway, here’s a little reminder of the show for those philistines amongst you who have yet to see her latest wares – “for Autumn Winter 2016, Mary Katrantzou is enamoured by a love story of opposing halves and attractive opposites, masculine fusing with feminine,” inspired by such filmic classiques as Wild At Heart, Natural Born Killers and Baz Luhrman’s Romeo and Juliet. According to the press release, “fashion is a verb: to fashion, to make. Fashion is the act of makinglove”. Which is enough to make a prude like me blush. I’m off to take a cold fashion shower.
