I have never learnt to drive. I did try, but my career behind the wheel ended abruptly at the point whereby I stalled three times at a traffic light, had a fight with my Dad and then cried at the side of a dual carriageway. The man in this picture, however, looks like he knows exactly how to helm an automobile. It’s something to do with that slightly unfurled driving glove, those heavy masculine arms. No tears here. And what’s that on his wrist? Well, a lovely Cartier watch. A Drive de Cartier, no less. He wears it with pride. It says “I know how to harness the power of an engine. I am in control”. According to Cartier – “his watch is worn as a reflection of the man, rather than for status, the same applies to his passions which he steers, as he would his car, appreciating the beauty of the skills involved.” But really, this watch needn’t be worn only by the more car-inclined members of our readership. No, such a gloriously beautiful timepiece (pink gold or steel, a black, grey or white guilloché dial, sword-shaped hands) would be a suitable adornment for any esteemed gentleman’s wrist.
