At Gieves & Hawkes’ Autumn/Winter 16 presentation the models stood on plinths. As if they were in a museum. Which was suitable really, not just because of their own aesthetically blessed forms, but where better to put Gieves & Hawkes’ tailoring than on a pedestal? They are located at No.1 Savile Row, lest we forget. But even the most tailored of gentleman needs some down-time clothing. We presume. You know, for like horse-riding or walking expensive-looking dogs at large country estates. So they went a bit casual. Yes, there were still jacquard tux jackets, perfectly-formed camel and houndstooth jackets, but there were also chino-ish trousers, lovely jumpers, gilets. Even a proposition for a white trouser. Simple, to the point – a fully formed collection for the classier of gents amongst us. Expensive looking. And throughly British. There was even British sparkling wine. And you know? We couldn’t tell the difference. Everything tastes the same after a few glasses.
