Lou Stoppard’s Mad About The Boy Exhibition

Meadham

It’s been a very boy-based day here at Ten Towers, what with it being LCM and all that business. Plenty of just post-pubescent male models skimming past our faces. And really, pretty much every day is a boy-based day here, what with our office being made up primarily of gay men, women who act like gay men. Perfect then, that the ever-wonderful Lou Stoppard (her of ShowStudio fame) has curated an exhibition all about our fav subject – Mad About The Boy, exploring fashion’s fixation with youth. “I did a series on SHOWstudio a couple of years ago called Girly, which examined the almost cartoon-ish nuances of femininity, and I think in some ways, this has become an extension of that,” Stoppard says. “Having attended the menswear shows season after season, you can’t help but ponder the recurring themes. Designers like Hedi at Saint Laurent and Raf Simons are consistently drawn to youth, and to them youth is obviously a concept rather than a reality. That’s really fascinating to me.” So, what to expect? Well, there’s a toilet with lots of pink splashed upon it, lots of lovely bits from the now-defunct Meadham Kirchhoff (including Charlie Porter’s very own jumper) as well as stuff from Raf Simons, Nick Knight and Larry Clark. And lots of films, audio recordings and images all about the less fair sex – enough to send even the most sane of you boy crazy.

Mad About The Boy runs from January 8th – April 2nd, 2016 at the Fashion Space Gallery, London College of Fashion.
