Hussein Chalayan celebrated twenty-one years in the business with his Spring show. Which, considering how arch and cerebral his work is, is a testament to his staying-power, resilience and unwillingness to compromise. And, of course, his unexpected creativity. Like when gushing water melted a pair of paper dresses in this ode to Cuba, unfurling crystal-strewn party frocks beneath, a razzle-dazzle pyrotechnic launch of Chalayan’s evening wear after a pragmatic daywear-focused offering. This show put a spring in your step – hopefully Chalayan was similarly elated.
