Gucci: Ready-to-wear SS16

The Gucci revolution is afoot. Literally, because it started with the shoes, those fluff-lined horsebit-snaffled slippers that have been the runaway hit of the winter season. They appeared again for spring, alongside an avalanche of other pieces, pearl-studded, snake entwined, brocade-smothered. And I’m still only talking about the shoes. This was only Alessandro Michele’s third womenswear outing, officially, but the Gucci guy has already redefined the Gucci girl, transforming her from sexpot to eccentrico extraordinaire. But this time, there was a bit of sex to the Gucci girl, to her exposed underpinnings and transparent layers (more often than not, just one layer) and a sparkling, multifaceted richness throughout. This show was inspired, the notes said, by 17th century maps of tenderness. And even as the models filed past, there was already a whole lotta love for Michele’s new – and improved – Gucci.
