Prabal Gurung: Ready-to-wear SS16

It’s not that often that a fashion show begins with a group thirty monks appearing on the stage, heads bowed in prayer, clad in their traditional orange and red. Even for us usually cold-hearted Tenners, it was an admittedly moving moment, their chants dedicated to those who lost their lives in this year’s Nepalese earthquake. “Today is about gratitude for all the kindness, today is about renewed faith in the goodness of humanity,” the show notes read. The collection itself drew on Nepal, the country of his childhood, in its rich palette of orange, yellows and reds, colours inspired by the work of artist Laxman Shrestha, found on floating embroidered silks and jacquards. Ultimately,  the show was a celebration of Gurung’s homeland. Which made us feel less guilty when we headed straight for an alcoholic beverage afterwards…
